NEED HELP with PHOTO IMPORT PROBLEM IN WINDOWS 8
When I import photos and videos, Windows Photo Wizard creates filenames
names that have dates that do not correspond to the date the photos or
videos were taken.
Windows 8 did not have a Photo Import Wizard.
I implemented the MS Windows Photo Wizard via these instructions from a MS
posting: 1. right-click desktop, "new shortcut" 2. paste the following in
as the location: %SystemRoot%\system32\rundll32.exe "%SystemDrive%\Program
Files\Windows Photo Viewer\photoAcq.dll",PhotoAndVideoAcquire 3. hit next
and type a name - e.g. photo import wizard 4. hit finish.
The file version of the programs in the "C:\ Program Files\Windows Photo
Viewer" directory is 6.2.9200.16384 (modules are dated 7/25 & 7/26/2012)
except ''PhotoViewer.dll'' which is file version 6.2.9200.16604 and dated
6/16/2013.
The wizard does everything I need it to do EXCEPT it has a bug and fails
to insert the correct "date taken" on each imported photo image file as
shown on the selection panel description. The date it uses for all photos
is the same and is the date for the 1st photo. I chose the File Name
option: "Date Taken + Name".
I have located a fix in Support Article ID: 951173 but the problem
description states that the failure only occurs if you are importing
photos from a CD, DVD, etc., [a source other than a connected camera or a
storage card that you take from a camera and put in a card reader]. In my
case I am using a direct USB connection from the camera and also from a
USB camera card holder and I encounter the described failure. The fix was
also released prior to Win8 and I'm not sure it is applicable. I'm not
interested in using Windows Live Photo Gallery, I just need the MS Photo
[upload] Wizard to work properly.
Your help is appreciated.
